This heatmap was designed to show differences in patients waiting to start treatment (as of March 2023) across dermatology services in England. It highlights the potential regional inequalities and areas for improvement in waiting times, as well as the average waiting time in weeks from referral to treatment. It's important to note that referral times change on a monthly basis and that waiting time information is published with a 3-month window period.
Using more recent data, Sanofi have created a new tool charting the significant variation in waiting times and availability of dermatology specialists across Integrated Care Systems in England. You can view data for each specific ICS to show:
- How many weeks patients have been on the dermatology waiting list
- What proportion of all dermatology patients are seen within 18 weeks
- What proportion of the patients have been on the dermatology waiting list for less than 18 weeks (the NHS operational standard is 92%)
- How many dermatology specialists there are per 100,000 patients
- The ranking of the integrated care system on each of the above
Key Findings
- As of July 2024, dermatology waiting times ranged from as low as 7.1 weeks on average to 17.2 week.1
- At the same time, the variation in the number of dermatology specialists per 100,000 registered patients varied from as low as 0.56 per 100,000 to 4.91 per 100,0002
- Despite an NHS operational standard of 92%, only 64% of patients are seen within 18 weeks for dermatology appointments.1
- The variation in waiting times is also replicated within integrated care systems as much as it is between them, with considerable differences between neighbouring NHS Trusts.
